My thoughts while watching:

  • Frogs
  • Wait – is that Liberace’s bedroom?  Ha Wait, are the frogs going there as a couple.  Wait, what kind of cartoon is this???
  • There are bullet holes in the security camera.  There are bullet holes in the window.  Is this Frogs In The Apocalypse??  Are all the humans dead?  Or just here in this tropical place?
  • My fave frog – the one stuck in the pasteries jar!! ha!
  • Wait…frog porn?  NOOOOOOO (ugh, thank goodness)
  • Oh, there is four of them…
  • Wait…was that a portrait of Trump??  ((rewind))  Holy shit, that is Trump, isn’t it??
  • Accidental hit of the music and lights, now it IS a Garden Party.
  • Wait. No, wait!  WHAT??  It is a dead bloated Trump floating to the surface of the pool???  WHHHAAATTTT????

Um, what was that?  LMAO  No, seriously, what WAS that??  I guess I did not realize that this was a political action movie.  Ha ha ha ha.

Looking up details, it comes to us from France!

The realistic animation was astounding.  I am wondering if this is all computer generated, where the Basketball one was sketches?  This is really well done (animated-wise).

Alex loved this one.  He likes how the story builds and then arcs, all the while giving you little clues along the way until you piece it all together with one big bloated Trump.

These are the first Academy Award nominations for Victor Caire and Gabriel Grapperon.

According to Wikipedia:  Garden Party is a 2016 CG animated short film directed by Illogic Collective, 6 French 3D artists during their studies at MoPA, animation school in France. This short film is their graduation film. The short has been presented and won awards in a number of festivals including the Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival, the Siggraph, and the Nashville Film Festival where it won the Oscar Qualifying prize of Grand Jury Price for best animation.

VERY interesting behind the scenes video:

Per NPR:  Garden Party  A plague of frogs descends on an empty mansion in this delightfully demented effort from upstart French animation collective Illogic (originally done as a student film). Expertly paced, the short gives us a bunch of scenes of the amphibians going about their daily business, swimming and scavenging for food, only gradually letting us onto the fact that something in the land of the humans has gone horribly wrong. The animators are clearly lovers of amphibious creatures: Every ribbit and hop is conceived in stunning, realistic detail. To say much more would spoil the fun, but the final gag is a literal knockout.
