My Day

My day today started with my accidentally picking up the air freshener instead of the hairspray.  Currently, my hair is fresh and smells like a tropical breeze.  I thought to myself, is this going to be indicative of the rest of the day?  Surely not.

I boarded the train late.  I hopped onto the Flatbush Avenue train thinking that it was too damned cold to wait the eight minutes for the Penn Station Express.  After all, I would only have to hop out at Jamaica and transfer to a Penn line.  Wait for it…..  As we are pulling into Jamaica and everyone is eagerly waiting at the door for an expeditious exit, an announcement is made.  Two trains have had an accident and there are delays of up to (or more than) an hour.  Everyone groans and sits back down.  This is going to be a long one.  The bad part, I still had to change at Jamaica because my ass could not wait the eight minutes for the next train.  Because of that faux pas I ended up standing on the bitter cold platform at Jamaica for some twenty odd minutes.  Because I was not expecting to be in the elements I was ill prepared for the onslaught of wind and dropping temperatures.  So I was freezing and only as of an hour ago, finally shook the chill that took hold of my bones.  So my commute went from 42(ish) minutes to 2 hours and 10 minutes.  Yay!

At lunch, I ask our waitress for hot cocoa because I was still feeling chilled.  She asked me if that was made from hot chocolate…. (um…yes?  I wanted to say no, it is only made from cocoa….).  The kicker?  She brought me coffee.  Seriously?

So, yeah.  It is now after 5PM and my day will slowly wind down.  I sit here and just wonder what joys I will find on my commute home.  Of course that will not occur until almost 9PM, but hey, who is complaining?
